Strade Bianche podium at 19: who is Paul Seixas, cycling’s new phenomenon

07/03/2026

Paul Seixas

At just 19 years old, Paul Seixas has already become one of the most talked-about names in world cycling. His outstanding performance at Strade Bianche 2026, where he finished second behind an otherworldly Tadej Pogačar, has put the spotlight on a talent who, until a few months ago, was known only to insiders. Now, however, the young French rider from the Decathlon–CMA CGM Team has officially arrived on the big stage of professional cycling.

Seixas didn’t just try to hang on: he attacked, tried to close the gap to Pogačar and even managed to latch onto the Slovenian’s wheel for a few kilometres before finally yielding to the world champion’s relentless pace. But that brief spell riding side by side with Pogi was enough to reveal the young rider’s qualities: courage, composure, race intelligence and a natural ability to handle the bike on gravel that simply can’t be taught.

Paul Seixas, the French talent who stunned Strade Bianche

His rise, however, didn’t start today. Seixas reached this podium after an already impressive start to the season: he finished second overall at the Volta ao Algarve, showing consistency and composure against far more experienced riders, and he won the Faun-Ardèche Classic, his first major victory as a professional.

Already in 2025, when he was just 18, he had shown he was destined for the top. He won the Tour de l’Avenir, the most prestigious race in the world for Under-23 riders, then finished third at the European Championships and even seventh at Il Lombardia, one of his first appearances among the pros, leaving everyone stunned by his maturity and endurance.

Born in 2006, Seixas developed through the French cycling system at remarkable speed: from the junior ranks to his first international races, and then his WorldTour debut with Decathlon–CMA CGM, the team that believed in him before anyone else. Strade Bianche confirmed what French coaches have been saying for some time: this rider has everything it takes to become one of the leading figures in cycling over the coming years.

And if today Pogačar still looks untouchable, the feeling is that in a few seasons the young Paul may be one of the few capable of looking him in the eye. Strade Bianche 2026 may well be remembered as the day cycling discovered its next great star
