The dedication ceremony of the Colle Pinzuto Strada Bianca sector took place today, officially naming it after Tadej Pogačar. The Slovenian champion, winner of the race in 2022, 2024 and 2025, attended the unveiling of the stone marker that will forever bear his name on this iconic sector of the course. Also present at the ceremony was Fabian Cancellara, the first rider to receive this recognition thanks to his victories in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 editions.
The spectacular, world-class weekend organised by RCS Sports & Events continues tomorrow with the presentation of the men’s and women’s teams at the Fortezza Medicea, followed on Saturday by the two UCI WorldTour races, and on Sunday by the Gran Fondo, which will see 8,500 riders at the start.
Quotes
Tadej Pogacar: “It is an honour for me to become part of the history of this race, which has always been one of my favourites. Winning it three times has been the reward for many sacrifices, and I hope to be among the protagonists again on Saturday, which will also be my season debut. When I was a teenager, I used to watch Fabian Cancellara make the difference on these roads, and being associated with him in this ceremony makes me very proud”.
Fabian Cancellara: “Tadej Pogačar is a generational talent, strong on every terrain and competitive throughout the entire season. It’s great to see how quickly he established himself in this race, to the point of becoming its benchmark. Now there are two of us with a sector dedicated to us, and I’m sure he can win it again in the future. The race has changed a lot compared to when I used to ride it — now the difference is already made 100 km from the finish. Looking back, it would have been great to duel with a champion like him”.
