Anna van der Breggen wins the 2018 Strade Bianche NAMEDSPORT> Women Elite

The Dutch rider Anna van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans Cycling Team) has taken a solo victory in the fourth edition of Strade Bianche Women Elite NamedSport; the race, the first in this year’s UCI Women’s WorldTour, covered 136km from Siena (Fortezza Medicea) to Siena (Piazza del Campo). Van der Breggen crossed the finish line of the historic square alone, 49” ahead of Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon // SRAM Cycling) and 59” ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle High5).

Good morning from the Strade Bianche!

The men’s edition of the ‘Northern Classic in the South of Europe’, now in its 12th edition, organised by RCS Sport/La Gazzetta dello Sport and part of the UCI WorldTour calendar, started today from Siena at 10:43 with 146 riders. Did not start: dossard number 167, Maarten Wynants (Team Lotto NL – Jumbo).

The press conference on the eve of the Strade Bianche NamedSport and the Strade Bianche Women Elite NamedSport, both UCI WorldTour Calendar races, featured the UCI Road World Champion, Peter Sagan, UCI Cyclocross World Champion, Wout Van Aert and last year’s winners, Michał Kwiatkowski and Elisa Longo Borghini, speaking in the breathtaking Palazzo Sansedoni – Fondazione Monte dei Paschi (the headquarters of the race), in Piazza del Campo, Siena.

Strade Bianche 2018 and its Gran Fondo: a new challenge is ready in Terre di Siena

On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 March the Strade Bianche and Gran Fondo Strade Bianche get the Italian cycling season officially underway. Starting on the Saturday with the men’s and then the women’s UCI WorldTour pro races, with 24 teams announced for the women’s, followed on the Sunday by the sportive Gran Fondo Strade Bianche race.

Strade Bianche and UCI Worldtour 2018 Wild Cards

RCS Sport announced today its selection of wild card teams that will participate at four out of its five UCI WorldTour races: Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-Sanremo and Giro d’ItaliaIl Lombardia wild cards will be announced later in the season, after evaluating all the results of the teams that have requested participation at the race.

Three-year partnership between RCS Sport and Shimano Italy

RCS Sport and Shimano Italy are proud to announce a three-year partnership for neutral support at a host of UCI WorldTour races, including the Strade Bianche.   Shimano Italy’s neutral support provision exists to ensure riders can continue to successfully complete their event in the face of mechanical issues. Much like Shimano’s neutral support provision in Spain and the Benelux countries, mechanics in cars or on motorbikes will provide support on the road, while mechanics at neutral support zones at selected points along the route will provide help and assistance to riders.   In-race support from Shimano will be provided also at Giro d’Italia, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-Sanremo, GranPiemonte, Milano-Torino and Il Lombardia.
