2020 RCS Sport races: list of teams announced

RCS Sport has today announced the list of teams that will participate in its 2020 cycling races.

Official dates of RCS Sport’s one-day races confirmed

All RCS Sport’s 2020 one-day races are to take place in August. Strade Bianche will open the calendar on 1st August, Milano-Sanremo will be the first Classic Monument of the season on 8th August, with Il Lombardia last of the one-day races on 15th August. Dates are confirmed for the Giro d’Italia (3-25 October) and Tirreno-Adriatico (7-14 September)

Strade Bianche and Strade Bianche Women Elite postponed from 7 March

After the meeting this morning at the Prefecture of Siena, in the presence of His Excellency the Prefect and the Mayor of Siena, verified that there are no conditions for guaranteeing the provisions of the DPCM (Decreto del Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri della Repubblica Italiana – Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic) on 4 March 2020, RCS Sport has agreed with the appropriate authorities to cancel the two cycling races scheduled for Saturday 7 March: Strade Bianche and Strade Bianche Women Elite.

Media Note – Spring Races

Following the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic of 4 March 2020, RCS Sport announces that the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche scheduled for 8 March is canceled. The details of the new date will be communicated in the future.

Strade Bianche Women Elite: 23 teams at the start

The 23 teams to participate at the Strade Bianche Women Elite on 7 March are announced today. All 8 UCI Women’s WorldTeams and the best 7 UCI Women’s Continental Teams are expected to start, along with 8 wild cards.

RCS Sport has today announced its selection of wild card teams that will participate at four out of its six UCI WorldTour races: Giro d’Italia, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-Sanremo, and Strade Bianche.

The Strade Bianche route joins cycle tourism project

On Friday 8th March, at the start of the weekend of the Strade Bianche pro race and gran fondo, the Terre di Siena Slow (TSS) project was presented in Siena. It is promoted jointly by the Provincial Administration of Siena, the Municipality of Siena (leading body), 32 Municipalities of the Province of Siena and local sports associations such as the Bici Club Terre di Siena, ARI Association, FIAB Siena and the Eroica.

Julian Alaphilippe claims his dream victory

Julian Alaphilippe della Deceunick – Quick-Step è diventato il primo francese a vincere la Strade Bianche nelle tredici edizioni della gara disputata sugli sterri senesi. Ha battuto l’ultimo compagno di fuga, Jakob Fuglsang dell’Astana Pro Team, sulla salita finale di Via Santa Caterina poco prima di raggiungere la magnifica Piazza del Campo a Siena. Proprio come un anno fa, la stella del ciclocross Wout Van Aert, ora in forza al Team Jumbo – Visma, ha conquistato il terzo posto. Il trio aveva attaccato a 24 km dall’arrivo.

Julian Alaphilippe wins the Strade Bianche NamedSport 2019

The French rider Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) has won the 13th edition of Strade Bianche NamedSport; part of the UCI WorldTour, the race covered 184km from Siena (Fortezza Medicea) to Siena (Piazza del Campo). Taking the win on the finish line in the historic square, Alaphilippe beat Jakob Fuglsang (Astana Pro Team) and Wout Van Aert (Team Jumbo – Visma).
