The teams that will participate at the Strade Bianche NamedSport> Women Elite on 9 March are announced today. The first race of the UCI Women’s WorldTour will have 21 teams of six riders each at the start, ready to match the performance of last year’s winner, current Road World Champion Anna van der Breggen.
The Strade Bianche NamedSport> Women Elite, organised by RCS Sport/La Gazzetta dello Sport, will be held in Siena, Italy on 9 March, a few hours before the start of the Men’s race.
The first race of the UCI Women’s WorldTour calendar, it’s expected to be one of the most spectacular of the year, a unique event on the global cycling scene thanks to its special course character on Tuscany’s gravel roads, and to the high level of participants: last year’s winner was Anna van der Breggen, who then went to win the UCI Road World Championships in Innsbruck, Austria.
Participating at the race will be 14 out of the 15 teams that must receive an invite according to the UCI rules, plus seven more teams who have received a wild card from the organisers. Each team will be comprised of six riders.
